This page explains how content on OvertimeCalculator.uk is written, checked and maintained, in line with good practice for helpful, trustworthy content.

Our approach to accuracy

All guidance pages on this site are written by our editorial author, Lilly Anderson, and checked against publicly available UK Government and Acas guidance at the time of writing. Where a statement relates to a legal right or requirement, we aim to link directly to the relevant GOV.UK or Acas page so you can verify it at the primary source. We deliberately avoid overstating legal entitlements; for example, we are careful to explain that UK law does not fix a specific overtime rate, rather than implying otherwise for simplicity.

How our calculators are built

Our calculators apply standard, transparent formulas: overtime pay equals hourly rate multiplied by an overtime multiplier and by overtime hours, and salary-to-hourly conversion divides annual salary by 52 weeks and then by weekly hours. Our overtime tax estimate uses simplified standard UK Income Tax and National Insurance bands. We do not use hidden or proprietary formulas.
